60' Southern Marine Malahide Motor Yacht
These motor yachts were built to fishing boat specification using the best materials, with everything being oversized (hull planking details below).  'Bivrost' was constructed in Norway & delivered to Malahide Yacht Yard in 1969 for final fit out to the then owners specification.
She is in need of some considerable love but to somebody who is used to working on large timber boats, understands the financial undertaking and has access to a suitable location to carry out repairs, she will make a fairly easy and very rewarding project.  Google search ‘Southern Marine Malahide motor yacht for sale’ to see the potential use, finish & value. We are selling her with the owners consent to settle an outstanding berthing debt, a full receipt of sale will be given.
The aluminium superstructure is in great condition, only being let down by poor painting externally.  Some panelling has been removed inside the super structure to reveal shiny aluminium.  Until very recently, somebody was living aboard it.
She really needs taking back to pre fit out condition & starting again internally, externally, she will no doubt need some planking repairs / replacement (but she does float level & takes very little water), re-calking, some refastening & re-painting.
She is fitted with a Rolls Royce SF 65CTM 220hp (@1800RPM) turbo charged engine (but the sump is perforated & has lost its oil - assume the engine is beyond economical repair / parts only), has hydraulic steering, a bow thruster and has Vosper stabilizers.

The engine was overhauled in 1985/5 to include replacement liners, piston rings etc but the crank will have corroded due to the sump not holding oil.

A G&M Genny (still trading & supplying generators to super yachts & MOD) 7.2 kva diesel generator has been fitted, we haven't run it but the engine does turn by hand.

Hull planking is Danish Oak, 1 ¾” on the sides and 2 1/8” on the bottom.  Deck planking is 1 ¾” Iroko screwed to deck beams.  Frames are deep impregnated Boliden Fir 6 x 5” increased to 7 ¼ at the keelson.  Frame spacing is 15 1/2 “.
Bivrost has a 1200 mile range and she was certainly well travelled with records of traveling between a previous owners address in Cowes to Malta (several times),.

She had a full refit in Malta winter 1984 / 85 whilst dry docked during Jan / Feb 1985.  Her hull was stripped to bare wood below the waterline, re-caulked, 17’ of sacrificial keel was replaced with oak, 2 coats of redlead primer (1st with added oil) applied, then a coat of Hemple Platine primer followed by antifouling.  All sea cocks were overhauled with a replacement earth plate.  The history file also shows the fuel tanks being opened up & cleaned as well as the engine overhaul as previously mentioned.

The bow thruster was fitted in 1989 at Manoel Island Yacht Yard (still trading) in Malta.
The last record of serious maintenance was back in 1989, 34 years ago.  She was sold to a chap on the River Crouch (where she is berthed now) in 1993 for £75,500 - a lot of money back then so assuming she was still very well maintained up to this point.
The then new owner kept her in a mud berth near his house for 20 years before being sold & re-located to our mud berths (under her own power) approximately 10 years ago.  in 2016, a previous owner started a facebook page to show the then refurbishment, search Bivrost & scroll down.  This owner has also offered to supply information to any potential buyers & has many more photos.
The ships file records her as being registered at 35.39 tons with a gross weight of 52.04 tons and a displacement of 60 tons full load.

Unfortunately far too heavy to lift ashore for any overhaul or for a below water line inspection to be carried out.

Please note that residential use is not permitted on our premises.

Bivrost will ONLY be sold to somebody with the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to refurbish.

Do NOT contact me UNLESS you can prove you have the ability to finish this fine boat.

The Reason I can not complete this boat my self is I live nearly 6 hours away and my business in in Western Europe and I simply can not find time to spend working on her .I am very very busy and only get back to UK a few times a year

Bivrost can remain on her current berth whilst repairs are undertaken, subject to not being used for residential purposes & payment in advance of current mooring charges.

NO Day Dreamers Please
