Additional Information:
A beautiful old herring boat built in Buckie Scotland 1939, larch planks on oak frames. For restoration or preservation. Includes steel lifting/ transport cradle and some chandlery.
Boat is under cover in Southampton. It was brought it down from Shetland about 7years ago with a view to restoring it and converting it into a very minimalist houseboat.
The the deck and cabin structure have been removed as had suffered rain damage . Some damaged frame sections and replaced them with oak from the New Forest – there are still ½ dozen to do.
The larch planking on the whole is OK but there some with splits and others that will need refastening
Basically I’ve run out of steam on it and trying to run a business from the same site it wasn’t progressing as it should, time to move it on.
It is a stunningly beautiful old boat that would be a very rewarding for an individual or community project . It could be patched up but I was coming to the view that re building was the better option, but obviously much more time required.
It its original form it would have had flush decks with a fish hold and small wheelhouse. Originally it was powered by Kelvin engine with auxiliary sail. There is some history and drawings. There is no engine but something like a 2 or 3 cylinder Sabb or Lister would be well suited.
Let me know if you have any further questions. The price is £1500 which is essentially the cost of the heavy duty steel cradle on which it sits
DO NOT SEND MONEY TO SELLERS YOU CANNOT VERIFY AS GENUINE.
If possible, travel to view the boat or equipment yourself and only buy once you are happy with it.
