60' Southern Marine Malahide Motor Yacht
Re advertised and now being sold by Fambridge Yacht Haven ltd.

The last owner has unfortunately suffered a serious injury at work and with permission backed up with a formal letter of authority from the owners immediate family, we have re-taken possession of Bivrost and are offering her for sale to somebody who understands to work involved.

A full receipt and MCA Bill Of Sale (Deed Of Transfer) will be provided by ourselves.

We are selling Bivrost for £1 with conditions.

We will require a £4000 holding deposit which will be fully refundable if / when she departs our premises within 12 months of purchase. We will also require 12 months berthing to be paid in advance, this will be £2841.30inc vat, but we will also refund any unrequired berthing pro-rata. As an example, if she departs within 6 months of the purchase, we will refund the £4000 holding deposit + £1420.65 for 6 months unrequired berthing.

These motor yachts were built to fishing boat specification using the best materials, with everything being oversized (hull planking details below). 'Bivrost' was constructed in Norway & delivered to Malahide Yacht Yard in 1969 for final fit out to the then owners specification.

She is in need of some considerable love but to somebody who is used to working on large timber boats, understands the financial undertaking and has access to a suitable location to carry out repairs, she will be a fairly straight forward & very rewarding restoration project. Google search ‘Southern Marine Malahide motor yacht for sale’ to see the potential use, finish & value.

Bivrost recently sank overnight to just below deck level due to a failed bilge pump & 1 x port hole being left open. We pumped her out the following day and sealed the port hole, she has been fine since.

There are suitable floating drydocks & slipping facilities available locally at Blackwater Marina
See: blackwater-marina.co.uk

The aluminium superstructure is in great condition, only being let down by poor painting externally. Some paneling has been removed inside the super structure to reveal shiny aluminium. Somebody was living aboard her up until Jan 2024.

She really needs taking back to pre-fit out condition & starting again internally, externally, she will no doubt need some planking repairs / replacement (but she does float level & takes very little water), re-calking, some refastening & re-painting.

She is fitted with a Rolls Royce SF 65CTM 220hp (@1800RPM) turbo charged engine but the sump is perforated, has lost its oil & was fully submerged following the recent semi sinking - the engine will be beyond economical repair / parts only.

Bivrost has hydraulic steering, a bow thruster and has Vosper stabilizers.

A G&M Powerplant (still trading & supplying generators to super yachts & MOD) 7.2 kva diesel generator has been fitted, I’m not sure if water reached the generator during the recent semi sinking but assume that this will also be beyond economical repair.

Hull planking is Danish Oak, 1 ¾” on the sides and 2 1/8” on the bottom. Deck planking is 1 ¾” Iroko screwed to deck beams. Frames are deep impregnated Boliden Fir 6 x 5” increased to 7 ¼ at the keelson. Frame spacing is 15 1/2 “.

Bivrost has a 1200 mile range and she was certainly well travelled with records of traveling between a previous owners address in Cowes to Malta (several times).

She had a full refit in Malta winter 1984 / 85 whilst dry docked during Jan / Feb 1985. Her hull was stripped to bare wood below the waterline, re-caulked, 17’ of sacrificial keel was replaced with oak, 2 coats of redlead primer (1st with added oil) applied, then a coat of Hemple Platine primer followed by antifouling.

All sea cocks were overhauled with a replacement earth plate. The history file also shows the fuel tanks being opened up & cleaned as well as an engine overhaul.
The bow thruster was fitted in 1989 at Manoel Island Yacht Yard (still trading) in Malta.

The last record of serious maintenance was back in 1989, 36 years ago. She was sold to a chap on the River Crouch (where she is located now) in 1993 for £75,500 - a lot of money back then so assuming she was still very well maintained up to this point. The then new owner kept her in a mud berth near his house for 20 years before being sold & re-located to our mud berths (under her own power) approximately 12 years ago. in 2016, a previous owner started a facebook page to show the then refurbishment, search Bivrost & scroll down.

The ships file records her as being registered at 35.39 tons with a gross weight of 52.04 tons and a displacement of 60 tons full load. Unfortunately far too heavy for us to lift ashore for any overhaul or for a below water line inspection to be caried out.

Please note that residential use is not permitted on our premises & we will need Bivrost to depart from our premises within 12 months of purchase.

Bivrost will only be sold to somebody with the skills, knowledge and enthusiasm to refurbish her elsewhere – if not refurbished back to the exceptional expedition yacht she once was, she’ll make a great static home or income generator as an air B&B if you have a suitable mooring elsewhere.

Bivrost can be viewed strictly by appointment, contact for more details
